Undoubtedly, computers have proved to be of great value in international commerce and individual financial transactions, but they have their disadvantages. Notable among these is that they have added to our already large number of instances of crime. This new category of crime emanating from computers is referred to as cyber crime. Hacking is the most prevalent cyber crime. It involves stealing and misusing someone's identity. It can lead to disastrous consequences for the person whose personal information is hacked. It can result in financial ruins of a personal data is misused , by maligning his image. Cyber crime also involves spreading malicious software, generally called computer virus or worm, thus rendering the entire system dysfunctional. Sending objectionable graphic or textual content to others is also a form of cyber crime. It causes undue trauma and stress to the person who receives such content, especially if the victim is a minor. These are special cyber cells in the police department to deal with computer related crimes. But sometimes it becomes quite difficult to trace the origin of cyber crime. So, there is a pressing need for users to use caution and remain vigilant by following proper security settings.
