Safety is everyone's prime concern.But how some people neglect it! Everyday, newspapers are splashed with poignant accounts of road-accidents.The situation is made worse by ill-planing, narrow And encroached roads as well as blantant violation of rules of the road.
We,the commuters,can be held responsible for these accidents too.Most of us lack civic sense.We feel proud in breaking traffic rules or maybe we do not spare the time to abide by such rules. We seldom wear helmets or fasten seat belts and keep using cellphones while driving until there is strict enforcement of rules.
The traffic authorities are also to be blamed equally for not enforcing the traffic rules strictly. Through rules exist,the penalty imposed is minimal. That is why people do not comply with them. Some even indulge in giving bribe and are let off.
The need of hour is efficient traffic management. Encroached roads must be reclaimed,road signs must be made accurate and installed where no signs exist. A sustained public awareness about the rules of the road and strict implementation of the law can effectively ensure road Safety.
