The Ever Rising Prices

The Ever Rising Prices

The rapid increase in prices of essential commodities is causing great concern to the people of India.

Fixed income group like salaried people, the labour class and pensioners are the worst hit by rising prices, especially when essential commodities like gas, pulses, sugar, edible oils, tea, food grains, petrol etc  get beyond reach of the common man.

Increasing population is a major cause of rising prices. When supply doesn't meet demand, prices are bound to increase. The defective planning and distribution system is another cause, adding to the problem. Moreover, the standard of living has increased. Now, most people do not remain satisfied with the bare necessities of life. They want more things than they needed earlier, and this increasing demand for other things leads to rise in prices.

Hoarders, black marketers and profiteers should be dealt with severely and the public distribution system of essential commodities should be made more efficient. It is suggested that the government should boost the marketing and sales of agriculture produce. In addition, the policy makers should keep the poor and depressed in mind while formulating and executing economic policies.
